Trivox vs Hyperscale Cloud: When a Real Server Is the Better Host

Hyperscale cloud is excellent at bursting, managed databases and firing a fleet you will delete tomorrow. It is a weak default if you want a box for three years, root, a CPU family you chose, and a bill that does not surprise you after egress. Trivox is that default: KVM and dedicated in Amsterdam, hardware you can name, no mystery instance generation.

This is not "cloud is bad". It is "use cloud for cloud problems". Use Trivox when the problem is a server.

Where cloud wins

  • You need a managed service that is not "install PostgreSQL yourself".
  • You scale to zero overnight and accept the pricing model.
  • Your team already lives in one vendor's IAM and you will not fight it.

If that is you, stay. Trivox will not pretend to be a global control plane with 30 regions.

Where a Trivox server wins

  • You pick the CPU and chassis. Xeon or EPYC, Dell, Supermicro or HPE. See hardware and the shop filters, not an "m6i.xlarge" that changed last quarter.
  • Root on KVM or bare metal. VPS when you want isolation without a whole chassis. Dedicated when noisy neighbors are not acceptable.
  • A monthly number you can quote to a reseller customer. Cloud bills are a product. Hosting invoices are a product too. They are not the same product.
  • The same metro as colo and transit. Grow into colo or transit without leaving Amsterdam Databarn / NorthC.

Performance is not a vCPU lottery

Cloud steal time and credit CPUs are real. A well-run KVM node with a published CPU still has neighbors, but you are not bidding against a spot market. Dedicated is the honest answer for latency-sensitive game servers, build farms and databases that hate noisy neighbors. That is a large part of why people move "off cloud" onto operators like Trivox.

How to decide in one paragraph

If the workload is a long-lived Linux server with root, European users, and a need to know the hall and the uplink, use Trivox. If the workload is a managed queue plus a function that runs 40 ms, use a hyperscaler. Mixing both is normal: keep the API in cloud, keep the game shard or the git forge on a box you can SSH into at 03:00.

Cloud is a platform. A server is a server. Buy the one you actually need.
